As a country the act of sharing and caring has been a deeply embedded way of life all across be it the citizens, civil society, employers or corporates; providing for the needy and social consciousness have been systematically ingrained in every aspect of our lives -  culture, religion, family, values, tradition, trade, employment encompassing every human activity and endeavour.

Charity and philanthropy have been practiced from times immemorial. In its current understanding CSR has come to embrace such universal thoughts that include growth with equity that stir the conscience to provide for the uplift of the community and thereby for an inclusive development of the society.

With the passage of the Companies Act, 2013 the mandate for corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been formally launched to the collective conscience of the Boards of Indian companies. The industry has responded positively to these mandates.

The Mandate: Under the Companies Act, 2013 that came in to effect from 01 April, 2014 any company having a net worth of INR 500 crore or more, or a turnover of INR 1,000 crore or more or a net profit of INR 5 crore or more should mandatory spend 2% of their net profits per fiscal on CSR activities.

These statutory requirements have galvanized several corporates to actively participate in projects of social uplift and sustainability; they spend significant sums of money in such structured engagement with the community. Corporates are also actively seeking to partner with reliable and experienced organizations in these noble pursuits, a healthy sign of acknowledging and practicing "doing bigger, doing better".

The Charitable Trust of the Regional Grand Lodge of Southern India has been sought out by many corporate entities and other, similar multinational organizations that enjoy a similar ethos of providing brotherly love, relief and truth achieved through the practice of moral virtues of faith, hope and charity.
