PROJECTS BY THE TRUST
Jammu
and Kashmir experienced torrential rains in September 2014 that
flooded most parts of the state wreaking unprecedented havoc
claiming an estimated 277 lives. The J&K state and adjoining areas
received heavy rainfall from 2 September 2014 onwards, during the
last stage of the south-west monsoon triggering flooding and
landslides.
Within three days of rains, the Jhelum river in Srinagar, the state
capital was flowing at 22.40 feet (6.83 m) which was 4.40 feet
(1.34 m above the danger mark and at 33 feet (10 m) at Sangam in
Anantnag district above the danger mark.The discharge rate in the
river was recorded as 70,000 m3/s against the normal discharge of
25000 m3/s. The river flooded into the streets causing heavy
casualties and loss of property.
The Brethren and Lodges in the Regional Grand Lodge of Southern
India teamed up with charitable organisations, NGOs, the Indian Army
and other individuals to render relief and succour to the suffering
people of J&K through financial contributions, providing medical
assistance volunteering with the relief operations

Srinagar and the Indian Army 1 RR Unit in Anantnag

distributed by our Brethren of North India in Jammu

much needed warmth as temperatures steadily drop with the onset
of winter in J&K
Medicines

A broad range of medicines to
combat illnesses caused by water-borne diseases, and other
ill-effects arising from flooding, cold, cough, fever, body
pain; ailments of the GI system, heart and Pulmonary functions
including several First Aid treatments were identified by Health
Care Specialists

These were then procured from
manufacturers from across several states at Low Cost or No Cost,
airlifted to J&K

Medicines were utilised by the
Indian Army in 6 Medical Camps and Other Voluntary organisations

Commercial value of the medicines
supplied is in excess of INR 9 Lakhs
